Everbound Everneath Brodi Ashton Books
The book starts off with Nikki being her usual blaming self for the first couple of chapters. She blames herself. Blames Cole. Ugh. The girl is starting to get on my nerves. Then it starts to get interesting. Nikki, Cole and Max go to the Everneath to save Jack. During the book, it switches from present to past. I liked the past part is showed insights into Nikki and Jack. This one had more actions as the trio goes through the rings of the Everneath in the search for Jack. Cole risks a lot doing this for Nikki. I’m still rooting for him. The ending caught me by complete surprise, but I should have realized bad boy Cole had something up his sleeve.
I enjoyed it better than the first book, maybe bc of all the action.

Everbound Everneath Brodi Ashton Books Reviews
First - Everneath and Everbound should have been one book. After I became obsessed with the first book, I had to immediately download Everbound because of the crappy ending in Everneath, namely that nice-guy Jack sacrifices himself for Nikki, taking her place in Everneath. I'm on team Cole, but still, I really hated that a good guy gets to have the life sucked out of him because Nikki is a twit and makes stupid choices. But I digress ....
This was a good book. It kept moving (even faster than the first) and it had a better ending than the first. Again, the author is creative, even when she uses centuries-old myths in her storyline she does so in a unique way. In this book, we find our decision-challenged heroine Nikki guilt-ridden over Jack's sacrifice and determined to rescue him. Since she can't even get to Everneath without an everliving, she convinces Cole take her and help her battle the creatures of the realm (Wanderers, Shades, Sirens, everlivings) and overcome mythic challenges (think lakes of guilt and blood, walls of fire) all to free Jack.
So, ask yourself - WHY WOULD COLE DO IT? And there is my biggest problem with this book. Sure, the author has a reason which makes total sense when it is revealed, but my issue is that the question WHY never crosses Nikki's mind! Atleast she could have raised it and dismissed it, but never even having an internal dialogue about it was a ridiculous plot hole. And, since it doesn't cross her mind, when Cole's reasons are revealed, Nikki's reaction should have been a lot different! Along the same line is Nikki's choice in the Cole/Jack arena. I personally find Cole more complex, and just a-little-bit-bad, and therefore a more compelling love interest. He's offering Nikki eternal life, power and fame. Even if Nikki ultimately rejects him, it should atleast be worthy of some consideration..... the author told us why Nikki was doing something, but not why she WANTED to do it. I think no matter what her choices were, I would have liked to know more about her thought processes. Since this frustrates the heck out of me, and I doubt it will change in the third book, I am having serious doubts about whether I will read it or not.....
Everbound was so captivating. After the events of Everneath, Nikki wasn’t going to give up hope. She was going to find a way to save Jack and herself. But she had no idea how and the mythology books she was piling in her room didn’t have any answers. Unfortunately, Cole was last and only resort.
Everbound was Nikki’s descent into the Everneath in search of Jack, with a mixture Egyptain and Greek mythology and hints of Dante’s Inferno mixed in. There were different rings of a labyrinth that Nikki had to go through, with the help of Cole, in order to have any hope of finding Jack in the Tunnels. While I wish the story would have mirrored the myths and scenery I’m familiar with in the Underworld, I was captivated nonetheless. The Everneath was certainly unique and dangerous.
In order to stay focused, Nikki often reminisced about moments with Jack to keep her tether intact and her memories strong. It was her way of holding on to him. I loved getting more of their story as she searched for him. Although I never questioned the depths of their relationship, I have to admit that Cole’s character grew on me. I think he really did care about Nikki and I felt bad for him. Even in the end. It was kind of heart wrenching, actually, because he helped her and forced her to hold on to memories of Jack to prevent getting lost in the Everneath, but I’m sure hearing the moments ate at him a little.
The ending really surprised me. I’m anxious to see what happens in Evertrue. I would recommend this series, but I will admit that it’s not my favorite mythology retelling. It’s kind of different, weird, and very focused on one singular action versus exploring a whole world of mythological elements. But there’s something about it that drew me in and kept me interested the entire time.
